When Hardissen became a part of the city of Lage in 1970, the Hardissen Gemeinde (community) could already look back on 800 years of Hardissen’s past. This book records, for the first time, the history of the Hardissen and Lückhausen settlements, from their rich tradition of farmsteads (Höfe), lying in the fertile country along the Oetternbach and Bega rivers, to their transformation into a modern suburban housing development.

The development of the village-style settlement, economy, power structure, and culture is presented through narrative and photos that at last document the farms and houses and their inhabitants. At the same time, this volume also contributes to the regional and rural social history of Lippe.

The book is written by Nicolas Rügge, the historian, and Wilhelm Brinkmeyer and Walter Pfaff contributed to it.
